BtVS - 3.10: Amends

Original Air Date: December 15, 1998
Writer: Joss Whedon
Director: Joss Whedon
As Buffy and her friends make plans for a quiet Christmas vacation, Angel is haunted by visions of his violent, demonic past, including the ghost of Jenny Calendar. Meanwhile, Willow goes to great, seductive lengths to try to convince Oz that he is the one for her; and Xander painfully adjusts to his life without Cordelia.
We have a Whedon written and directed episode, so… you know, good luck to us.

Flashbacks! Little by little, we learn more of Angel’s life as a vampire. I gotta say: that facial hair is atrocious. The accent also sure is something.

Shirtless Angel once again because wearing shirts goes against the angsty love interest code. If we don’t have at least one (1) shirtless Angel scene per episode, lightning will strike and it will be the end of all things.

BUFFY WITH BANGS?????? I had deleted this from my mind. It does make sense for a girl to change her hair after her (love) life goes tits up, though. But I think SMG might have done it for a movie, maybe? Either way, it’s a Look.

Okay, we have Angel hallucinating about his victims. Makes me wonder why that’s only a thing now when he’s been back for a while? Though, I guess the holiday do bring back a lot of things for a lot of people—vampires included.

Xander, helpful as always.

The awkwardness with Xander and Cordelia and Willow and Oz. Ugh. I do need to congratulate Oz once again about healthy communication! He took his time to think about this situation and his feelings and what he wants, and then he talked to Willow about it. Go Oz! And I love that they hugged because I really wanted them to lol

Joyce has such strange ideas that come out of nowhere sometimes… Invite Fath over for Christmas? Very good in theory. And then refusing to invite Giles p l s you made out a few times while you were under the chocolate curse and now you’re embarrassed? Invite him over for Christmas and make out with him some more!

Dead Christmas trees right above the spot where something evil is happening! Wow!

Can we take a moment to notice that Faith decorated for Christmas? With colored lights? Around her dingy motel room?

Giles cooking! I do love when we see the characters do mundane stuff? We’re so used to having the gang mostly in the school and library setting, so to see them in their own homes doing regular human tasks is like a little treat.

So of course Angel shows up to ruin Giles’ dinner. How is there no one else to help you, Angel, when you’ve been alive for such a long time and know so many beings and things etc? Where is the Angel from season 1 who had his finger on the pulse of evil happenings and showed up to warn Buffy about stuff?

JENNY!!! Also Angel, did you ever consider you might be suffering from PTSD? You were tortured for heck knows how long in the hell dimension. You’re traumatized.

Atrocious facial hair once again. Yuck yuck yuck.

CANONICAL DREAM SHARING? IN MY BUFFYVERSE?

Aaahh, Jenny. I missed you. And she comes in calling Angel out on his guilt.

I’m really glad Buffy goes to Giles about this Angel thing despite their entire situation. No keeping secrets when something this important is happening! Xander and Willow are there to help, which leads me to the question: students are allowed at school during break??????????????????????

More dream sharing! As a form of psychological torture! Because we can never have nice things ever. We must only feel pain and guilt.

THE FIRST EVIL! I do love the names of the bad guys like: the Master, Mr. Trick, the First Evil. So simple and yet so effective.

I do love Willy. When are evil beings not underground in Sunnydale? Seriously.

Aaaahhh, Willow. The ol’ seduction tactic. This entire scene gives me fuzzy feelings because we have Willow saying she’s ready to have sex for the first time and we have Oz totally shocked about it and taking a step back and saying he’s the one who is not ready! And making sure Willow knows it’s important for them to want to have sex for the same reason and not out of her thinking she needs to prove herself to him! COMMUNICATION! BOUNDARIES! LOOOOOOVE!

Faith is over for Christmas! Also, why did Buffy not rescind Angel’s invitation to come into her house again????????????????????????????? If you want to stay away from him and move on etc etc. You know he likes to climb through your window. Tell him his not welcome anymore.

Buffy putting the puzzle pieces together as always <3 We love a smart Slayer <3

“I am the thing that darkness fears.” Okay buddy pace yourself.

I don’t like this scene tbh. It’s a lot of Angel angsting about things and him and Buffy having conversations they’ve already had and it’s angst for the sake of angst? Like… do we really need to see them suffering again for the same things they’ve suffered before? Do we need to see Angel hitting Buffy as a way to try and prove a point? We get it: she needs to be punished over and over again for having had sex with someone she loved. Enough.

Bad taste in my mouth!

Snow fixes all, apparently. Like????? Sure okay. Merry Christmas.

Jenny: If you wanna feel sorry for someone, you should feel sorry for yourself. Oh, but I guess you’ve already got that covered.
