BtVS - 2.07: Lie to Me
Original Air Date: November 3, 1997
Writer: Joss Whedon
Director: Joss Whedon
Also, lovely that once again we have Buffy catching Angel in a situation that looks bad and leaves her jealous and hurt. Could we stop with that? @Writers can we move on, please?
Jenny, so good to see you! Especially arguing with Giles :D Her grabbing his tie and saying he’ll have to trust her is so cuuuuuuuute I love her
Oh my goddd, passing notes in class! The flashbacks, the memories, the rush! And Cordelia relating to Marie Antoinette because of course.
I’m always going to be suspicious of new arrivals in Buffy. Ford is no different! It’s always fun to get to know a little bit more about Buffy’s pre-Sunnydale life, though. We don’t seem to get much from it during the show and every little bit is interesting.
Ah, the fatphobia. Fuck you, Joss.
Ford really just comes out and talks about slaying and vampires. SUSPICIOUS. It’s like he’s UP TO SOMETHING. Something EVIL.
Oh my god, the goth vampire club! I’d forgotten all about it! The secondhand embarrassment is so so so strong in my person right now. Can’t relate to wanting to die young and stay pretty, but I also don’t want to be a vampire, so.
I do like Angel and Willow interacting?? I find it weirdly cute. I guess because of the dynamics of bestie’s crush coming to bestie for advice. Willow hiding her bra is incredibly relatable as well lol Her full face of makeup (with lipstick!) while getting ready for bed is so odd.
“ON THE NET” Is that how y’all referred to it back then??? Being a “Net person”?
Angel’s self-awareness about being brooding is so funny sdkfslfjlsf He honed those skills over a hundred years! Your fave could never.
There’s really not a single person suspicious about Ford knowing about Buffy being the Slayer. Not even Giles. Make it make sense.
Buffy getting some deets on Drusilla! And then the vampire Ford said he killed steals one of Giles books! Are the Slayer senses finally tingling now???
Spike shows up so he can also be jealous of Angel and Drusilla. And Ford shows us all how stupid he is. Honestly, I would have made him a meal. “I’ve known you for two minutes and I can’t stand you.” SAME, SPIKE! SAME.
The “I love you, but I don’t think I trust you” thing re Buffy and Angel… To think I was watching this as a very young person with no perspective and thinking it was such an amazing love story. Adult me is like: then dump him! Move on! No healthy relationship is built without trust!
Was Buffy/Angel supposed to be a portrayal of a healthy relationship, though? I know it was supposed to be #goals, but healthy? What was the world in ‘97….
Buffy is now quick to connect the dots! Sort of. Honestly, just kick Ford in the balls. He deserves it.
Oh hey, I’d forgotten Ford is terminally ill. This is close to a trigger for me so… time to skip some bits of this scene!
Big “Leopards Ate My Face” energy with the vampire club people. Some quick thinking from Buffy re threatening Drusilla so everyone could leave. Except Ford! It’s pretty interesting that Buffy leaves him there to die. Could it be considered mercy on her part?
Ah yes, the lie that life does get easier. <3

Buffy's fifth grade flame, Billy "Ford" Fordham, unexpectedly arrives in Sunnydale with one motive: to deliver Buffy to Spike in exchange for the immortal life of a vampire. Meanwhile, Buffy and Angel confront their feelings for each other and Angel owns up to his past relationship with Drusilla.Rather creepy opening at the playground with Drusilla and her beautiful nails! And we finally have her and Angel interacting! She’s got his numbeeer.
