Trying to escape who she is, Buffy finds herself in a city far from home where she is forced to once again face her destiny to battle a demonic force threatening inner-city kids living on the streets. Back in Sunnydale at the onset of senior year, Willow, Xander, Cordelia and Oz try to keep the vampire population in check without getting themselves killed, while Giles searches for leads on Buffy's whereabouts.

We’re starting Season 3 with an episode that, to be honest, I’m not that big a fan of.

Without Buffy, the Scoobies have to take up their stakes and go after the vampires around Sunnydale! To say they’re kind of bad at it would be an understatement lol Pause to mention Willow’s new haircut: it’s cute!

Aaahh, the trauma making itself known through Buffy dreaming about Angel :( I always get so sad at seeing Buffy in the first few scenes of this episode. She looks absolutely miserable as Anne and it hurts my heart.

Willow and Giles really talking about vampires out loud in the FULL library… Amazing.

Cordelia’s insecurity also waves at us at the prospect of seeing Xander again! I did chuckle at the joke about him being attracted to monsters because that so tracks. It SO TRACKS.

THANK YOU WILLOW for saying repeating a grade isn’t a turn-on! I had so many friends in high school dating people who didn’t care about their grades/school and ended up repeating a year and being shitty about it.

I don’t remember how the show deals with Buffy’s obvious depression? So far, the way it’s being portrayed in these scenes, hits me so hard.

Lily is so sweet :( And then she invites Buffy to a rave???

Okay, while I do like that BtVS shone a brief life into the issue of homelessness/unhoused people: why? Google tells me there was a crisis going on in the USA in ‘98 and there was a National Symposium on Homelessness Research? Is that why?

WELL, am I glad Joyce regrets her actions? Yes. Do I feel sorry for the way she’s feeling right now? Oh hey, Ken is what’s going on. Who woulda thunk it. I will say that I’m not sure how I feel about the show having a literal demon be the one to exploit unhoused kids? When the reality is that real human beings are the ones who take advantage and abuse them.

I do love all of the action scene here and how Lily is the one true savior girl of this episode <3 “Can I be Anne?” Yes, u can bb.

We end the episode with Buffy back in Sunnydale, no words just hugs from mom. Let’s see how the season goes!
