BtVS - 3.07: Revelations
Original Air Date: November 17, 1998
Writer: Douglas Petrie
Director: James A. Contner
Faith is back! And Buffy is going out with her tonight in a way that is framed as just gals being really good pals. SURE.
Okay, but I super relate to the scene of Giles sitting down and taking notes while Faith and Buffy kick some vampire ass. It very much feels like me watching my students when they realize the consequences of not handing in any work is failing the class.
*gasps* A new Watcher? And she’s a woman? Wow. She starts out by insulting Giles’ occult book collection, but it’s fine. I do wonder, again, about Watcher communication and the lack of a good system in place considering Giles didn’t seem to have any idea Mrs. Post was coming. Do better, Watchers.
Funny tidbit about Sunnydale having 12 cemeteries within city limits! No one comments on how that’s a lot? At least, it is to me.
Angel, shirtless again. The sexual tension between him and Buffy is off the charts!!! I like that Angel questions her about what they’re doing. It’s a reversal of their dynamic.
Note that the episode count of Giles taking off and putting on his glasses is also off the charts here. I guess he’s stressed :D
Sorry, I’m going to skip this Willow and Xander scene. I don’t have the patience for it.
“You boinked the undead.” Aaahh, Faith. Such a way with words.
Had to cover my face with Xander finding out about Angel being back. It gives me a lot of feelings and none of them are good! And they get worse with Xander catching Angel and Buffy making out! I don’t remember how Xander reacts to this? It’ll be interesting to see, considering the Willow situation.
The gang officially knows about Angel being back! I don’t like how any of them react? They don’t ask questions and don’t let Buffy explain. No one mentions the fact that Willow’s spell worked and that Xander didn’t tell Buffy about the spell being cast. It’s all blaming Buffy. I do agree that Buffy keeping this a secret from them wasn’t good, though. I wish they were more understanding.
You know what? Fuck you, Xander. Don’t bring Jenny’s death into this.
… “harboring a known murderer.” I get it, coming from Giles.
Mrs. Post creating doubt and intrigue! I wonder why that is…
Aaaahh, Willow. At least she recognizes she’s also keeping a secret that can and will hurt people she cares about.
DOES NO ONE UNDERSTAND ANGEL HAS HIS SOUL BACK? AND THAT HE KILLED PEOPLE WHEN HE WAS SOULLESS AGAIN? WHAT IS GOING ON?
Of course Mrs. Post is evil. Why wouldn’t she be?
“Please don’t judge me on this,” says Willow who judged Buffy about Angel.
So much jumping to conclusions!!! About all of the wrong things!!!!!! And then no apologies after things go horribly wrong. Amazing.
See? If the Watchers Council had better communication, none of this would have happened!
A hot take for you, Faith: you can trust Buffy.
What I’m getting from this episode is that a lot of things might have worked out better if people sat down and talked about their thoughts and feelings and actions. Instead, keeping secrets and not actively listening to friends leads to problems. Will the gang learn how to have productive conversations? Probably not.

Tempers run hot when the gang learns of Angel's return and Buffy's harboring this vicious killer, but they all must band together to fight a demon who has arrived in Sunnydale in search of a highly powerful weapon. Meanwhile, Faith meets her new watcher, a brisk Englishwoman who is disdainful of Giles' haphazard operations. We open this episode with a scene I don’t enjoy because it involves Willow and Xander being awkward about their feelings for each other and their shared kiss while they’re dating other people. Ugh. Then Willow throws Buffy under the bus by finally mentioning that she’s been acting unlike herself.
