BtVS - 2.09: What’s My Line? Part I
Original Air Date: November 17, 1997
Writer: Howard Gordon, Marti Noxon
Director: David Solomon
Drusilla with her cards <3 and beautiful nails <3 while Spike tries to find a cure to help her. Do we know what’s up with her aside from her being “weak”?
Buffy once again patrolling the cemetery and seeing some weird behavior from vampires! We know whatever the dude is doing has something to do with Drusilla and her cure. What could it beee?
And then we cut to Buffy climbing in through her own window and seeing Angel lurking in her room \o/ Angel holding Mr. Gordo is cute, though, even more so because he doesn’t immediately let go of him when Buffy calls him out on it.
ANGEL ADMITTING TO LURKING we got one self-aware vampire.
Buffy expressing she wishes she had a normal life and could be a regular kid. That always makes me a little sad. Weird of her to also include Angel in the “kid” category when he was in his 20s when he got turned.
I have to mention Xander bringing up “brutality” when Buffy gets assigned to law enforcement during Career Week. This was the year 1997.
Turns out the thing the dude vampire stole was a golden cross! Makes total sense.
Willow being so good at computer things some guys in suits have been tracking her for some time! Not at all creepy, I’d say. And Oz is right there with her!
We find out a little more about the guy who was buried with the cross. Who would have guessed he was evil? Certainly not me.
Some new faces arriving at Sunnydale! I do like how they’ve decided to introduce certain characters here. It makes you wonder if they’re going to be good or totally evil.
Wasn’t ice skating supposed to be Buffy and Angel’s first date??? But there’s no Angel…
Okay, he’s arrived! Right on time to save Buffy from a big dude. Of course, Buffy is the one to take care of the problem with the blades on her skates. Very interesting to see there’s no blood being shown! Was that a TV limitation?
Angel’s insecurity and self-loathing about his vampire face :( Embrace who you are!
I do have to comment on Buffy knowing she’s in possible danger and then walking the streets at night. Sure, she’s the Slayer, but she’s also been warned that the people after her are a step above what she’s used to fighting.
Willy! With the information!
And we end the episode with a few cliffhangers: Cordelia letting the worm man into the house??? Angel, locked up and about to die???? ANOTHER SLAYER????
Vampires Slayed: 1
Series Total: 33.
Giles Taking Off/Putting On Glasses: 0.
Series Total: 24.

Buffy: As long as I’m alive, there’s no one else.
Writer: Howard Gordon, Marti Noxon

In part one of a two-part episode, Buffy and Angel finally go out on their first date; Angel sets out to hunt down his rival, Spike, however, unbeknownst to Angel, Spike and his new recruits are determined to capture him in hopes of helping the frail Drusilla; and Buffy encounters her new ally, Kendra. Some High School normalcy with Career Week! And disappointment from Buffy once again thinking she’s never going to have a “normal” life and a future that doesn’t involve slaying. She’s not exactly wrong there.

there's just so much going on in terms of the show's overarching themes, and the character work.
There is! They're really setting up the second half of the season here and touching on some elements that stay on throughout the entire show.
