BtVS - 2.18: Killed by Death
Original Air Date: March 3, 1998
Writer: Rob Des Hotel, Dean Batali
Director: Deran Sarafian
I will admit: it is fun to see Angelus using his lurking powers for evil.
Okay, I have a really hard time with this initial hospital scene and the doctors sedating Buffy. I do not like that and I wish Buffy had been taken home to heal where she was most comfortable. Her fear of hospitals was due to childhood trauma and that wasn’t taken into account by her mom or anyone else. I do acknowledge that the flu can turn into a mega serious issue, though.
I do have a cultural question: is it normal for underage teenagers/children to be alone in hospital rooms overnight? Here, they always always need to have a guardian with them for as long as they stay hospitalized.
Aaahh, a creepy child!
And a creepy bad guy!
On the flashbacks: pretty cool we get to see child!Buffy, even if for just a few short moments that are all moving the plot forward (thank fuck!).
I do understand all the people who ship Angelus and Xander together. The tension is palpable! I am very bothered by Xander still having feelings for Buffy, however, considering his growing relationship with Cordelia. It means Cordelia deserves way better than him.
Cordelia is so incredibly insightful sometimes and SO TACTLESS. I love her deeply.
Giles should have learned by now that Buffy’s Slayer senses are AMAZING. If she said something is up, then Something Is Up. She hasn’t been wrong so far in the series and Giles should trust she knows her stuff.
With that said, the point Giles raises with Willow about children being able to see our “real selves” and Willow taking that to mean they’re afraid of a real person is good! I think most children are good judges of character and rely on things from the imaginary (like monsters) to try and describe certain situations because that’s the point of reference they have.
Aw, Willie Garson! You’re missed <3
Kids with their creepy drawings \o/
Cordelia getting her research assistant badge! And she got the guy :D I do love it when we have moments of the characters hitting the books and us getting the information about the bad guy in this way.
Buffy realizing the bad guy she saw is also the bad guy who killed her cousin is so sad. At least she gets the opportunity to avenge Celia.
OH THE EEEEEYES. THE EEEEEEYES. I HATE IT I HATE IT. OH NOOOOOOO.
Glad to know that Buffy still kicks ass while sick!
If my mom made me a sandwich and I told her she got the peanut butter wrong she would not! make me another one lol sick or not sick. And go Ryan for mailing Buffy the best drawing ever :D

Buffy: This little boy, Ryan, is afraid of something. Something real.

Buffy is admitted to the hospital with a raging fever where she encounters a young child who brings with him nightmares of Buffy's past and present. Meanwhile, a jealous Cordelia looks on as Xander protects a weakened Buffy from Angel's furyThis just in: the Slayer also gets sick! I really like these little touches of regular human life the writers bring to the forefront every once in a while. It keeps Buffy human and doesn’t let the audience forget it.
